Government of Ontario

Prime for the management of the Government’s IT business infrastructure of 8,000 servers, 10+ PB of storage at 700 sites with a senior technical team of 120 staff located across the province with management of defined SLAs. The infrastructure consisted of various technologies supporting business, email and file/print applications. Managed the operations $100m budget of staff, hardware and software and led the procurement including RFPs, evaluations and contract negotiations for all infrastructure.

Prime for the technology planning of the Government IT facilities and infrastructure, the financial leadership and management of the organization’s $75m budget, procurement, and contract negotiations for all hardware and software, led the team the developed solutions for all business applications and was prime for the facilities at 2 major data centers and 10 medium sized sites.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Led the design, development and detailed specifications for the Application Hosting Service offering (Revenue-$90M) obtaining CIOs approval and the establishment of the associated costing and pricing ABC models.
  • Provided Operations leadership for the IT – Rationalization Project with $5m of savings with major site consolidation, server and storage virtualization and major infrastructure upgrades.
  • Leadership for the DCO Virtualization and Consolidation project with $7m of savings, introduction of virtualization for 1,000+ servers, decommissioning of 300+ sites and establishment of iSCSI storage as a standard.
  • Provided operations leadership and facility experience in the design, specifications and build of a 40,000 sq. ft. Tier 4 Data Center.
  • Developed standard processes for solution design and implementation for approximately 100+ new business applications / year.
  • Led procurement and contract negotiations with vendors for annual savings of $5m / year.

IBM Global Services (ISM Inc.)

Prime for the development of solutions based on IBM sales requests for selected market customers. Solutions include the integration of various strategic outsourcing offerings requiring extensive IT knowledge. Co-ordinator of technical team of architects and systems management subject matter experts in the development of customer solutions.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Project manager of a systems operations technical team in providing a strategic outsourcing solution in response to 7 year $1.5B RFP from a major Canadian airline.
  • Instrumental in developing and defining a new Service Offering for AS/400 managed systems operations. This service offering is now a world-wide IBM solution.

Bell Canada

Managed several teams of senior technical / professional specialists located in multiple cities delivering network management for Bell network, CA*net, Infonet and developed & provided systems management services for Bell’s Internet server farm environment with 15+ customers.

Analysed an existing unprofitable and unsatisfactory business component and contributed as member of two re-engineering teams in the quest for ISO 9000 certification. Developed and led a team of 13 technical specialists providing sales new service introduction, customer transition planning and implementation of new services and platforms.

Promoted and marketed the company’s strategies, directions, products and services to customers as a member of the initial account management team.

Managed teams of IBM, HIS and Univac technology specialists in architectures and plans with hardware and software product evaluation, and capacity planning and performance management.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Directed company’s $8.0M+ Internet expansion of access network, application and server infrastructure using the latest technology and compressed timelines, overcame service concerns and satisfied demands of customer growth from 50,000 to beyond 150,000.
  • Improved on-time telecommunications installations by +100% in 4 months; with over 100 monthly requests implemented defined workflow processes and developed computer based order tracking and performance reporting.
  • Established close customer relations with CA*net during a period of serious customer concerns by improved communications, defined meetings and presentations to Board of Directors, introduction of service reporting.
    Spearheaded approval for an aggressive $.8M re-structuring of existing business; with through analysis and a persistent focused approach sold recommendations.
  • Moved unprofitable $8.0M DSM component to a highly competitive and profitable $28.0M business enterprise in a year: increased customer base by +150%. Key new customer was the H407 consortium and involved the design /build of a computer facility, application sizing and capacity planning for the implementation of a high availability mid-range AIX platform.
  • Introduced new solutions which added incremental $20.0M within a three-year period, contracted and implemented National IVR, Lotus Notes and data warehousing solutions.
  • Improved customer awareness of the company, as measured by customer survey, conducting various technology seminars, creating various product / service information material and recommending and proposing technical solutions.
  • Negotiated multiple vendor contracts with savings of 40% within a managed $30M budget.
  • Developed an annual planning process for the approval of companies’ requirements for technology and capacity.
  • Participated in the development of a Management Information system for capacity and performance reporting and alerts.
  • Acceptance by management of plan to offload Bell’s financial systems from Sperry to IBM.

ESAT Telecommunications – Ireland

Reporting to the CIO responsible for developing the framework of system management processes to support the business applications and corporate WAN/LAN infrastructure. Worked with the systems operations and production support managers to develop and implement the essential processes commencing with the problem and change management processes. Proposed the implementation plan for the all system management processes and prepared and presented technical information sessions explaining the processes, their integration and business value.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Recommended framework was accepted, and the process had been implemented improving customer satisfaction, increasing system availability and improving staff morale.
  • CIO offered a permanent position as their Director – Systems Management.

CLEAR Communications – New Zealand

Prepared the IT Plan (including environmental facilities, mainframe and LAN/WAN technologies) as an integral part of the business plan for a new competitive New Zealand telecommunications provider. Managed several teams of technical specialists delivering the systems and network management services and providing 24/7 operational support. Responsible for the financial management of the $15M annual expenditure.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Selected by winning consortium to be key IT player on the start-up team, comprised of 20 professionals from Bell, MCI and New Zealand partners.
  • Built and installed all environmental computer facilities and sized, provisioned and implemented the IT technology platforms from start-up to production in 7 months as scheduled, permitting CLEAR to start business as planned and become a profitable $150M+ revenue company.
  • Created the organization, developed job descriptions, hired and developed a team of 20 technical specialists to implement and manage the computer center and to establish and support the customer focused operational services.
  • Received company approval or implementation of the $1.5M IT disaster recovery plan developed through risk analysis and evaluation of supplier proposals.

SAUDI TELECOM – SAUDI ARABIA

Provided technical and management advice to Saudi Telecom and leader of a multinational technical team responsible for Saudi Telecom’s IT planning.

 

Special Accomplishments:
  • Developed and received approval for a 5-year IT technology plan, integral to the overall business plan developed for Saudi Telephone allowing expansion of the existing contract.
  • Negotiated $30M technology and maintenance contract based on selection criteria developed for the issued request for proposal.
  • Developed and implemented the technology plan as scheduled, including data center consolidations, technology installations and upgrades.
